Would you recognize hunger if it was right in front of you?

I would, because hunger once haunted the students at my school. Sadly, my students aren’t the only ones too hungry to learn. Hunger devastates millions of American children annually.

But the good news is that you have the power to change this when you make a gift to the No Kid Hungry campaign.

A few years ago, while I was grading exams for the Maryland School Assessment test, “Can’t think. Don’t care.” was written across one of the test papers. I asked the student about the test, and the answer was clear: he was just too hungry to think and too hungry to care.

The words “Can’t think. Don’t care.” had such a profound effect on me that I vowed never to let students like him suffer from hunger in my school again. So I partnered with No Kid Hungry to launch our school breakfast program. Since then, our discipline problems are at an all-time low, achievement is climbing, test scores increased and my students love coming to school.
