Dear Friend,
At my school, my students need breakfast. Plain and simple.
I'm the Principal at Daisy Bates Elementary School in Arkansas. Every morning I saw students starting their school day without eating breakfast — some who hadn't eaten since they were in school the day before. When kids are hungry, they have a hard time doing the easiest things — like getting from the bus to class or behaving in the hallways. Chaotic hallways and chronic tardiness were a part of each school day.
At schools across the country, educators will tell you their students are better able to focus on learning if they begin the day with breakfast. As the teachers at my school expressed their frustration and deep concern for their students, I knew I had to do something. That's why we decided to partner with No Kid Hungry and offer school breakfast.
You can help connect students to the healthy school breakfasts they need to succeed in across the country. Please make a gift to No Kid Hungry today.
I noticed a change at Daisy Bates Elementary right away when we started serving breakfast. The students' behavior was at its best every Friday. Working backwards to Monday, it was worse and worse. You see, after the students were away all weekend, they would show up the hungriest and least able to learn on Monday. But by Friday, they'd had a full week of healthy meals to start the day.
Not only were we able to help kids that were obviously suffering from lack of food, but once we introduced breakfast, referrals to my office for behavior problems went down by two-thirds. And math scores went up by 18%!
Your gift will help provide breakfast at school to the millions of kids across this country that don't get enough to eat.
Thank you for all that you do to support No Kid Hungry!
Sincerely,
Principal Matt Mellor

P.S. Breakfast can change the lives of our students forever. Together, we can make sure kids have the food they need to start their day ready to learn.
