Dear Friend,

Billy Shore and Jeff BridgesAll of us at Share Our Strength are thrilled that long-time hunger advocate and Academy Award-winning actor Jeff Bridges has joined our efforts to end childhood hunger in America by 2015 as the national spokesperson for our No Kid Hungry Campaign™.

Jeff has been a hunger advocate for more than 25 years, having started the End Hunger Network in 1984. He's passionate about the issue and believes that now more than ever, we have the opportunity to end childhood hunger.

Jeff took the No Kid Hungry Pledge during the filming of the campaign's new television public service announcements, which we look forward to sharing with you. If you haven't already, please join Jeff in taking the pledge. By doing so, you'll help us build the public will necessary to end childhood hunger in America

Sincerely,

Billy Shore

No Kid Hungry Arkansas Launches

Share Our Strength State Partner - ArkansasLast Friday, Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe and Billy Shore announced No Kid Hungry Arkansas, a new partnership between Share Our Strength, the Governor's office, and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. "Almost 25 percent of kids in Arkansas don't have consistent access to the nutritious food they need to lead healthy, active lives," said Governor Beebe. "That's unacceptable. This partnership will enable us to develop a comprehensive plan to end childhood hunger in our state."

Shore focused on how Share Our Strength's strategy to end childhood hunger will work in Arkansas: "In Arkansas, as in many states, public and private programs that provide food are often under-utilized, keeping kids from getting three nutritious meals a day. This campaign will identify and close those gaps."

Arkansas is the sixth state to join Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry Campaign.  Learn more »

Making a Difference with Summer Meals

Summer Meals BusMore kids returned to school ready to learn this year, thanks to the free summer meals you helped them receive. Share Our Strength worked with partners across the country to launch marketing campaigns that would connect more kids to summer meals programs. There were public service announcements on radio and TV, postcards, posters, bus ads, billboards, phone calls and grassroots outreach. We also provided grants to organizations starting or expanding summer meals programs. Early results suggest our efforts paid off. For example, Colorado Governor Ritter has announced that the state served more than 900,000 summer meals—more than ever before, and 17% more than last year. Great American Dine Out® A HUGE Success

We raised the bar, and you rose to the occasion. Nearly 4,200 restaurants (4,196 to be exact) registered for this year's week-long event—20% more than last year. Early reports tell us we will meet—and even exceed—our 2010 fundraising goal of $1.1 million to support the No Kid Hungry Campaign. In fact, a number of restaurants have told us they've surpassed their own fundraising goals. Visit GreatAmericanDineOut.org for success stories and, in the weeks ahead, the final figures.
