Chefs Cycle Update
This is one letter that I really don’t want to be writing, and I am beyond-disappointed to have to let you know that The Chefs Cycle ride in Charlottesville scheduled for next week has been cancelled.
As you’re likely aware, Hurricane Florence has devastated parts of North Carolina. The fallout has impacted Virginia, as well, where Chefs Cycle was to take place. With roads closed due to flooding, and critical resources being diverted to storm relief, safety is a major concern. The Cycle organizers faced a very difficult decision, but ultimately the safety of riders, volunteers and staff was the deciding factor. It’s a sobering reality check to realize that no available ground resources are available because the local community has its hands full trying to get their primary roads in passable condition and their homes accessible.
That said, no hurricane can get in the way of my commitment to feeding hungry kids in America. So, to that end, I’ll be taking to the Boston-area roads next week, along with other New England ChefCyclists, to ride 100 miles in one day! Please know that your support is still critical to the cause, and will fuel every mile I ride, just as it fueled the months of hard training I endured to get me ready for the September 27th challenge!
With gratitude for everyone’s support and much love,
