Let's End Childhood Hunger in America Together
It's Monday morning, and you just arrived to your desk. After experiencing the #sundayscaries the night before, you're ready to tackle on the week with a new vigor. As you settle into work with your morning coffee in one hand, eyes scanning through your inbox to check through your emails from the weekend while looking up to say hello to your co-workers, you begin to feel more at ease and ready to face on the day. You check your calendar: you're looking forward to eating the lunch you packed (#mealprepftw), that way, you can work through the day and make it to happy hour with your co-workers or a nice dinner at home with your loved ones.
Now, imagine having to dedicate that same alertness and mental energy to your job if you didn't have breakfast to eat in the morning. Worse, imagine if you got off work and didn't know what you were going to eat because you only had enough food to feed your kids (and you'll just have to skip dinner for tonight). For many children and parents across America, this is their reality each and every day. Childhood hunger is real, but it doesn't have to be anymore.
If it weren't for programs like the National School Lunch Program that offered reduced meals for my sister and me throughout elementary and middle school, I could have been in that same spot, not knowing if I could eat lunch that day. My two loving, hard-working parents busted their butts every day to ensure we got a great education and we had our basic needs (and more!) fulfilled, but for many families in America, it's getting harder and harder to attain the American Dream when you're so hungry you can't even sleep.
This is why I fight for ending childhood hunger with Share Our Strength and its No Kid Hungry Campaign. This is why I have been teaching families how to cook nutritiously and on a budget through Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters program. This is why I am a part of the 2018 No Kid Hungry Atlanta Society to raise funds for all of those kids and their parents who struggle to put food on their table, at no fault of their own. I am committed to educating you and everyone else on why it's important that no one lacks the fundamental right to eat and be nourished. And, I encourage you to learn more about what childhood hunger looks like, by watching A Place at The Table, visiting nokidhungry.org or donating to this worthy cause through this fundraising page.
1 in 6 children in America is facing hunger. This is unacceptable. Will you support me by giving a gift to connect kids to meals? Here's how your donation will impact them:
Every $10 dollars you give can provide up to 100 meals for a child who is still facing hunger.
